The curse of knowledge is a cognitive bias that occurs when an individual, who is communicating with other individuals, assumes they have the background knowledge to understand. This bias is also called by some authors the curse of expertise.
A good example of the curse of knowledge is when someone is trying to explain something to someone else, and they assume that the other person knows more than they actually do. This can often lead to the person providing too much information, or using jargon that the other person doesn't understand.
The genius professor is assuming that all students are on the same page.
