Labor Illusion

People value things more when they see the work behind them

The 'labor illusion' means consumers perceive good products more favorably when they're aware of the effort put in but it also makes bad products look worse. So, it’s a double edge sword. Use it correctly, and you can show how what kind of hard work goes into a good product, or show how careless the staff is when creating a product.

A lot of restaurants charge a premium when they can see the chefs cook in front of them, this shows “transparency”, and increases the perceived value of products.

Companies can implement this on their business by showing “behind the scenes” in form of videos to show prospects the kind of hard work that goes into the product that they are using.

Man pays more for food that’s cooked in front of him.
